Matt Cockburn is Torys’ managing partner and is responsible for the firm’s overall strategic direction and client focus, as well as for all professional and administrative matters.

Prior to becoming the managing partner in April 2020, Matt practiced corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on private equity and mergers and acquisitions.

At various times, Matt co-headed Torys’ Private Equity and M&A practice groups and served on the firm’s Executive Committee.

Matt graduated from the University of Toronto Law School in 1993 and was called to the bar in Ontario in 1995.
