Congratulations to Ken Fredeen, GC Emeritus of Deloitte, the 2021 BLG Stephen Sigurdson Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient!

Ken joined Deloitte with a vision—to create a world class Office of the General Counsel. Ken led a team of 25 legal professionals, with General Counsel responsibilities for both Canada and Chile. A naturally inclusive leader, Ken deliberately embraced diversity, which allowed his team members to be truly comfortable and authentic in their work. He insisted upon fully accessible venues for off-site meetings and events, encouraged team members to balance their work and life responsibilities, and actively supported flexible work arrangements. A key trait of Ken’s leadership style is developing leaders at all levels within and outside the firm—in particular women and people of diversity. Ken was an early adopter of the concepts of diversity and inclusion, always leading by example and modelling inclusive behaviours. He was one of the founding members of the firm’s Diversity Council in 2006 and ultimately became chair. Ken was also the founding Executive Sponsor for two of Deloitte’s employee resource groups—the LGBTQ group (established in 2007), and the accessibility group (established in 2014).
