Patrick Bourbeau

Patrick Bourbeau joined La Presse in 2008, where he now serves as Vice-President, Legal Affairs. In this role, he is called upon, among other things, to provide advice on matters relating to freedom of the press, defamation, and copyright law.

Patrick has been involved in several cases concerning the protection of freedom of expression, including the Commission of Inquiry into the Protection of the Confidentiality of Journalistic Sources (the Chamberland Inquiry) and the adoption of the Journalistic Sources Protection Act, for which he was awarded the Freedom of Expression Award by the Canadian Media Lawyers Association (CMLA) in 2018.

He served as President of the CMLA from 2021 to 2023.
