Sean Keating
New Gold Inc.
Sean Keating has more than twenty years of experience advising public companies on complex legal, strategic, and commercial matters, primarily in the mining industry. As Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of New Gold Inc., he played a leading role in more than US$10 billion in M&A and financing transactions culminating in the acquisition of New Gold by Couer Mining, Inc., which closed on March 20, 2026. Over the course of Sean’s time as General Counsel, New Gold’s market capitalization increased over 10 times.
Sean served as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing guidance on governance, disclosure, and risk management. He played a key role in managing relationships and negotiating agreements with First Nations at New Gold’s Canadian mine sites. He also led the closure of New Gold’s Cerro San Pedro Mine in Mexico, known for its successful and innovative social closure.
Prior to New Gold, Sean was counsel at Barrick Mining Corporation, working on corporate transactions and governance matters. He began his legal career at Torys LLP. Sean holds a Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Science from St. Francis Xavier University.
